Marcus Smith is a senior energy team meteorologist for Telvent DTN.  He joined Telvent DTN on August 1, 2006 and in his first month was named employee of the month with excellent phone consultations with one of our biggest sports clients, the Boston Red Sox.  Marcus has been a meteorologist for 7 years but has been making contributions to the field for over 10 years producing a website called MRS Weather which tracks national and local weather stories.

Currently Marcus is the primary morning forecaster for a major Telvent DTN energy client, Florida Power and Light sending them timely updates on impending thunderstorms and participating in conference calls daily throughout the state with dispatchers.  In 2007, Marcus created an index to better forecast thunderstorms in Florida based on wind direction/speed and instability which has aided in better and more precise forecasts.  When not on the Florida beat, he fills in on the long range forecasting and quality control desk.

Marcus graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in May of 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in atmospheric sciences with a concentration in weather forecasting.  Other interests besides weather include creative writing, dining and charting music.  A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he currently resides in Burnsville, Minnesota.
