With the Atlantic Hurricane Season fast approaching (June 1st for the Atlantic Ocean), it is a great time to review the ways you can stay informed about tropical weather through Telvent's WeatherSentry Online. Hopefully you've already caught our 2011 Hurricane Outlook by Jeff Johnson, which, in short, is forecasting more storms than average this year. But how will you know the forecasted track and strength of each storm that may impact you? There are many ways when it comes to WeatherSentry Online.
Telvent provides a full suite of tropical graphics and discussions under the Hurricane Weather tab on the left hand side of WeatherSentry Online. The graphics include storm paths through the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and Potential Tropical Development. In addition, discussions ranging from Cyclone Wind Speed Probability to Local Hurricane Statements will be updated frequently whenever a Tropical Storm or Hurricane has developed.
Under the Weather tab in WeatherSentry Online, more tropical information can be found. More specifically, layers containing Tropical Forecasts can be overlaid on the map, in addition to features like the current radar, lightning, and wind speeds. While keeping an eye on your location, see where the Official Tracks are. View the Tropical Rainfall, Wave Height, and Storm Surge Forecasts in relation to you.
Here is an example of WeatherSentry Online displaying Hurricane Hermine's forecast track, as well as Radar, Lightning, and current National Weather Service Warnings, back in September of 2010. In the image below, the Hurricane is moving into Texas, but this single storm produced widespread damage from Guatemala to Oklahoma.
With another active season approaching, don't wait to locate the Tropical Weather features included in your WeatherSentry Online subscription. And if you don't already have an account, now is a great time to start a FREE trial of Telvent's WeatherSentry Online platform and check it out.
