There is a lot of collaborative work going on the Smart Grid community to develop standards that will make different components of the grid interoperate. Like any other group, the SG community has some really active people, and then the rest of us. Those active people are already dialed in to what's going on within the core groups that are leading the charge towards better interoperability and cyber security, like NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology), the SGIP (Smart Grid Interoperability Panel), the GWA (GridWise Alliance), and the GWAC (GridWise Architecture Council). And of course there are also NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory commission, and the DOE (Department of Energy).

It wasn't exactly my idea, but I agreed to write a weekly blog on the Smart Grid. It might be that weekly is overstating a bit. But I hope to get something in this post every once in awhile, with a goal of at least one weekend between fits of ambition. Recognizing that there are already a number of commentators on the subject, still I accept the challenge, hoping that my uncanny ability to take in a large quantity of original thought by others and somehow make it seem my own will be at least mildly interesting, and potentially darn close to helpful. Not to mention my occasional penchant for the outrageously humorous anecdote. Some of which it may be possible that a few of you might not even have heard before. Unlikely, but possible.

<p>Many, many persons worked hard to put together this year's Telvent Users Group (TUG) conference, deemed 'the best ever' by Larry Stack, President of Telvent Energy. The TUG conference was hosted by Telvent Utilities at the Hilton Hotel in Fort Collins, Colorado, March 9 through March 11. Pre-conference registrants totaled 274, representing utilities, Telvent business partners, and Telvent business group representatives. Throughout a full first day, attendees were updated on Telvent Utilities product direction and observed demonstrations on the company's Smart Grid Metering, Network Devices, and Operations solutions.</p>
