Telvent to implement global maritime management platform for the Port of Barcelona
Maritime No Comments »April 28, 2011 - Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been selected by the Barcelona Port Authority (BPA) to carry out the implementation of a global maritime management platform for the Port of Barcelona. The project will enable the BPA to put ongoing improvement processes involving port activities and services into practice to thereby optimize port facility use and increase operational efficiency.
The BPA has been working over the last few years on improving port management efficiency and ensuring port service reliability with the aim of turning the Port of Barcelona into the leading logistics platform in southern Europe. This port is currently connected to over 825 ports around the world and is considered to be one of the most important direct ocean liner transfer hubs. In 2010 the Barcelona port achieved a 19% increase in international commerce, with a total of 3.4 million travelers passing through the facilities, up by 8% since 2009.
